Today we moved to Prejean’s Restaurant. They have two free full hookup camping spots
that you can stay overnight in. They
only ask that you eat a meal in their restaurant. After unhooking and setting up we drove to Acadiana Nature Park
for a short hike. Next up was Cajun
Brewing. For supper we ate at
Prejean’s. I had grouper with etoufee
and we shared bread pudding.

This morning Jim wasn’t feeling well. I went to Walmart and got a thermometer and
some aspirin. We moved to Fairview
Riverside State Park in Madisonville, Lousiana. We went for a walk around the campground in the evening. We walked around the 1885 Otis House which is in the park.

Today we drove across the causeway bridge into
New Orleans. This bridge is almost 24
miles long. We went to Urban South Brewing, NOLA Brewing, Port Orleans Brewing,
Wayward Owl Brewing and Brieux Carre Brewing.
My son and his friends met us there.
They happened to be in New Orleans for a few days. We walked down Frenchman Street into the
French Quarter. We had supper at Angry
Okra then walked around Bourbon Street.
They left to do a tour and we went to Pat O’Brien’s for hurricanes. Then walked back to our truck along the
French Quarter streets and drove back across Lake Pontchartrain to camp.

Today we drove to the start (or end) of the Tammany
Trace in Covington. This hiking trail
is 31 miles long via a former Illinois Central Railroad corridor. It is asphalt paved and runs from Covington
to Slidell through Abita Springs and Mandeville along the north shore of Lake
Pontchartrain. We hiked from Covington to Abita Springs where we had a beer at
Abita Brewing. I talked a couple from
Baton Rouge into taking us back to Covington.
Then we had a beer at Covington Brewing where we bought theirs for
driving us back. Our friends Gary and Linda who live
in the area came to camp and took us to supper. We ate at Mandina’s in Mandeville. I think this was one of the best steaks I ever ate. Then we went back to their home for
drinks. They drove is back to camp.
4/29/18 - Madisonville, LA
Today Jim and I went into New Orleans to the
Jazz Fest. The headline act was Jimmy Buffett. After it was over we went to
Parleaux Beer Lab to let the traffic thin out before returning to camp on the
bridge over Lake Pontchartrain.
4/30/18 - Madisonville, LA
We hung out at camp this morning then met eight
friends for lunch at Morton's in Mandeville.
After a nice lunch we drove to a house our friends had built to take a
tour. Jim and I stopped at Café Du
Monde in Mandeville for beignets before returning to camp.
5/1/18 - Houston, TX
Jim and I drove back to Houston, returned the
Casita to our storage lot and drove home. We are already looking forward to our next trip.
